Within the bluegrass region in Bourbon County lies Millersburg. It stands as a town of great Kentucky military and historical significance. The state’s only military institute is located in Millersburg. Founded in 1893 by Col. Carl Meade Best, the Millersburg Military Institute has been preparing its students for both military and civilian life for quite some time. The town was also once the location of an all-female college that was originally founded in 1860. Weathering two different fires and being owned mostly by the town’s own citizens, Millersburg College was eventually purchased by the Millersburg Military Institute. Today, the school and Millersburg itself continue to serve the commonwealth proudly and will likely do so for many years ahead.
