Allotment of Dower to Catharine Brown, widow of William Brown, deceased

We, the commissioners, were appointed to lay off and assign to Catharine Brown, widow of William Brown, deceased, and after examination of the tracts of land, and taking into consideration the relative value of each tract, have allotted to her as her dower, the North west quarter of section 24 Township 3 Range 3 East, with the exception of 20 acres of the East part of the quarter or 20 poles on each line running through the quarter 160 poles N. W. to detach and cut off 20 acres adjoining the Northeast quarter of same section Township and Range, which is excluded from the dower part of the Northwest quarter assigned to Catharine, said quarter being the west part thereof, including the homestead or farm of William A. Brown, deceased, and is according to our estimation one third in value of the three quarter sections of land. Given under our hands this 20th day of February 1841.
