Gillus Franklin Chadwick
Gillus was born 1828 in North Carolina, to Joseph Chadwick and Mary Unknown. His father was born 1799 in North Carolina his mother 1803 in South Carolina. Gillus came to Calloway County about 1850 with his parents and siblings, they were on the 1850 census but not the 1840 census. He was a farmer, he married Martha T. Southerlin, date unknown, there were six children born to this union, Elizabeth J. married David Morgan, Robert H., John W. married Maggie A. Roberston, Coleman "Colie" Albert married Loney Rae Fox, Marcus "Mark" Franklin married Donna Pearl Fox, Ollis Bell married John J. Ramsey. Martha died after the 1880 census and before Gillus married his 2nd wife, Frances Mildred Rushing in 1882, there were five children born to that union, Jenkin Goram, Claude Clifton,Bessie Beatrice,Daniel Raudus,and Orba Lela. Gillus died 1893 in Iron Mt. near Thorpe ,Tennessee. He is buried in Hale Cemetery in Calloway County with his 1st wife Martha. It was said that Gillus loved Calloway County, he spent most of his life there. Most people spell his name as Gillis but on his son Coleman death certificate it has his father name spelled as Gillus.
