JOHN R. SCHROADER

Was born in Calloway County, Kentucky 29-July-1853. His father Obadiah A. Schroader, was born near Bowling Green, Kentucky, 22-January-1829, a son of  John G. and Spicey (Amos) Schroader. John G. was a native of Maryland, a farmer by occupation, and came to Kentucky when a boy. Obadiah A. Schroader was reared on a farm, and only permitted to attend school during the worst winter weather. At eighteen years of age he began farming for himself, and at twenty began learning the black-smith trade, in 1849 he came to Murray and opened a shop, and after extended his work to the manufacture of  wagons, in which he has continued to the present time, now having a well established reputation and trade in this line. Employing a number of hands. In a financial way he has been very successful, having a farm of 300 acres aside from his business interest, which is the result of his personal industry and good management. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and takes an interest in the temperance cause. His wife was Miss Susan C. Poole, a native of Murray, Kentucky . She is a member in good standing of the Methodist Church. They both have been blessed with eleven children, five of whom survived. Their son John R. Schroader was given a good literary education, and in 1874 began the study of law, and was admitted to practice a year later. He is at present county examiner, a position he has filled since 1875. In the temperance cause he is devoting his voice and influence for its success.
