Moral Wave Hits Mayfield
Mayfield, Ky., Aug-25, Since the local option carried here last Saturday by such a big majority a temperance crusade has been inaugurated. The city council was visited Monday night by over fifty of the leading citizens of the city, including the ministers of all of the churches, asking the co-operation of the Mayor, chief of police, and policemen. These officials offered their best services.

Tuesday night just before a called session of the council met, Elder A.S. Pettie pastor of the Baptist Church, and R.O. Hester, one of Mayfield leading attorneys, were assaulted by Emmett McNeilly, who was at once arrested and lodged in jail. After the adjournment of the council one of that body went on McNeilly's bond, and he is now out of jail. Another mass meeting was held at the Methodist Church last night, where strong addresses were made by Judge Robbins, Judge Lee, H.J. Moorman, R.O. Hester, denouncing in unmeasured terms the actions of all persons trying to shield or prevent the punishment of evil doers.
