In Powell county yesterday James Duff on returning home found Carter Spurteck in bed with his wife, Duff drew his pistol and shot Spurteck several times killing him instantly.

Near Jeffersonville, Ky., on Saturday Miss Nora Cane shot and fatally wounded John Alstoll, a cooper, who had persisted in paying her attentions against her wish.

A Hazardous Leap

Mt. Sterling, Ky., Feb 7 - Last night Deputies United States Marshals James Harper and Burt Daniels were on the westbound express with five moon-shiners tried at Grayson, Ky., and brought to this city to hold for the United States court. At Morehead, Wallace Markley, a desperate character, leaped from the train while it was running twenty miles an hour. The marshals followed. An exciting chase of half a mile took place and eight shots were fired by the officers. They recaptured the prisoner and landed all in jail here. The officers were considerably hurt by their jump.

Mount Sterling, Montgomery County
LOGAN MURPHY, desperado and murderer, was hanged near Mount Sterling, Ky., by an armed mob of 300 men, who took him from jail by force.
Murphy killed his father near Sawyersville.
