Cameron
Parish

French: Paroisse de Cameron

Cameron Parish Louisiana is the largest land area in the state of Louisiana. A true sportsman paradise it is comprised of 26 miles of beaches, many  miles of waterways, and four wildlife refuges. Cameron Parish was originally called Leesburg. On March 16, 1870, by Legislative Act , the new parish of Cameron was created. It was carved from the southern part of Calcasieu and from the southwestern comer of Vermilion Parish. It is unknown how Cameron parish came by it's name. According to a aricle published in the "New York Sun," states  "The Hon. Samuel P. Henry, 'father of Cameron Parish' ...gave it the name of Cameron in honor of his friend, Simon Cameron of Pennsylvania."

Welcome to this Louisiana Genealogy Trails Website.

This is a new site, fashioned after our successful
Illinois Trails websites, and we hope to soon add data here that can help Louisiana researchers as much as we've been able to help our Illinois researchers.

We need some help to do that though - volunteers to host these county websites. If you can make a basic webpage, and you have a desire to transcribe data for the free use of all researchers, we can use your talents!
Review our
Volunteer Information and email Kim.

In the meantime,
join our mailing list to be kept apprised of updates to this website.
