Cameron Parish History

 The parish is comprised of 26 miles of beaches, many  miles of waterways, and four wildlife refuges.
Cameron Parish was originally called Leesburg. On March 16, 1870, by Legislative Act , the new parish of Cameron was created. It was carved from the southern part of Calcasieu and from the southwestern comer of Vermilion Parish. It is unknown how Cameron parish came by its name.

Cameron Parish has the second-smallest population in the state.
