Concordia
in latin means " with one
heart" or
"harmony."
In 1798 when the
Spanish withdrew from Natchez
Don Jose Vidal, who had been
commander there, moved on
the opposite side of the river,
and established the fort named
Concordia.This was the site where
the Fort Panmure was previously
located.In 1807 the parish seat
was at Concordia. On March 11,
1811 the name was changed to
Vidalia, and is so called from the
old
Spanish Commandant, Don Jose Maria
Vidal.
The
parish seat is Vidalia.
