Vincent Greco Vincent Greco dies in Louisiana Requiem  high mass for Vincent Greco, of Shreveport, La. former grocer at Metcalfe was said. Wednesday at 9 a. m. in Baton  Rouge, La., with burial in Baton Rouge cemetery. Mr. Greco died Monday night at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, after an illness of three months. He was 62. Born in Italy, he lived Washington county and engaged in the grocery business until years ago when he moved to Shreveport. He engaged in grocery business at Shreveport when he was taken ill. He leaves a brother, John Greco of Baton Rouge, a sister and four brothers in Italy; two I nieces, Mrs. Bruno Tubertini Jr., and Mrs. Glenn Powers and a  nephew Sam Greco, all of Greenville; and another nephew, Specialist Third Class Frank Greco, with the U. Harrison Fremont Kapp Harrison Fremont Kapp, 84, retired secretary manager of the Louisiana  Farm Bureau federation, who died  here, was buried in a Baton Rouge cemetery after services in Lake Charles. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clara Kapp of Baton Rouge; a son, Paul Kapp of Baton Rouge: a daughter. Mrs. G. A, Foss of Lake Charles, and three grandchildren. Port Arthur Times 2/6/1942
Mamie Champagne Bergeron Mrs. Bergeron's Rites Held in Baton Rouge BATON ROUGE, Nov 16 Funeral services were held here today in St. Agnes Catholic church for Mrs. Mamie Champagne Bergeron 85, mother of R L Bergeron of  Orange. Mrs. Bergeron was a former resident of Beaumont. Services and burial were under the direction of the Babenhorst Funeral home. Burial was in a Baton Rouge Cemetery. Jewel Stephens Delagarza DELAGARZA, JEWEL STEPHENS A retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Public Welfare with 32 years of service and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. She was born Feb. 3, 1903, in Vicksburg, Miss. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd., 9 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Don Hall. William "Lum" York Musician William 'Lum' York dies

BATON ROUGE, La.— William ''Lum'' York, a musician and comedian who played with Hank Williams and other country music stars, has died of heart disease at the age of 85.

Mr. York, a native of Elmore, Ala., was a bass player with Williams and his Driftin' Cowboys band in the 1940s. He also played with other stars, including Marty Robbins.

He died Sunday at a Baton Rouge hospital. Mr. York was a member of the Driftin' Cowboys from 1944-1949, including Williams' 1948-49 residency at the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport. Mr. York said Williams paid him $20 a week and room and board, which he said was a lot of money back then. "Lovesick Blues" in 1949 took Williams' to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. York and the Driftin' Cowboys stayed behind in Shreveport. York later got a job in Nashville but returned to Shreveport because he didn't like it.
Lefty Frizzell's band in 1952 hired York. He later played with Marty Robbins and George Morgan. After his stint with the Driftin' Cowboys and others, York played with pop and bluegrass bands. He also worked for the East Baton Rouge School Board.
Verna Jane Wilcox Dickey Verna Jane Wilcox Dickey, born Feb. 8, 1916, in Rockford, Ill., passed away on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008. Preceded in death by her mother, Jenny Olson Wilcox; father, John Wilcox; brother, James Wilcox; loving husband, BonDurant Mast Dickey; daughter, Carole Anne Dickey; and son-in-law, Judge Wilson R. Ramshur. Survived by her son, Craig BonDurant Dickey; daughter, Colleen D. Ramshur; grandson, Bradley Craig Dickey; granddaughter, Constance Babette Vlahos and husband Tom Vlahos; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Jennifer Vlahos, Christopher Daniel Vlahos, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos and Eric Matthew Vlahos. Also survived by her loving family friends, Marica Broussard, Daron Ford, Austin Zachariah Butterworth, John Taylor Butterworth and Blake Gex Butterworth. She was a retired teacher/librarian with 20 years of service in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. She attended Shimer College and LSU, where she received a bachelor's degree, a master's of education and a master's of library science. She was a member of the St. Francisville United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Christopher Daniel Vlahos, Nicholas Alexander Vlahos, Eric Matthew Vlahos, Austin Zachariah Butterworth, John Taylor Butterworth, Blake Gex Butterworth, Daron Ford and Louis Neyland Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Bahlinger, Peter Bahlinger, Zach Butterworth, Michael Hesse and William Smith. Funeral arrangements include visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow the funeral ceremony at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Ministers attending will be the Rev. Harold Babin, the Rev. Mike Clark and the Rev. Danny Gleason. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

A native and resident of Denham Springs, she passed away at 6:03 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at her home. She was 89. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joe Hurston. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jerry Nelson, Toni Taylor, Terrie Taylor and Robert White, Sheri Gray and Glenn Herrman; son, Robert J. Taylor; sister, DeeWee Gautreaux; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Benjamin Taylor; parents, Joseph and Agustus Facundus; and four sisters.

He was the owner of The Bread Basket restaurant with his wife, Faye, for 38 years. He was 85, a native of Donaldsonville and a resident of Baton Rouge. He died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday Oct. 12, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Monday Oct. 13, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday from 12:45 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:45 p.m., with the Rev. Miles Walsh, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Georgia Faye Marcello; three sons, Frank Randall Marcello, Michael John Marcello and Craig Saleem Marcello; daughter, Michelle Ann LeBlanc; stepdaughter, Tara Nolan Messenger; and 20 grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pops," Brittany Faye, Grant, Locke, Jack and Christopher Marcello, Alexandra Marcello, Mitch, Maggie, Caroline, Sal, Joseph and Mary Marcello, Nicholas, Gracie, John Warner, Sammy and Ellen Clare LeBlanc, Taylor and Tammy Messenger and Christy Messenger Richardson; great-granddaughter, Kelly Messenger. "Pops" generously fed them and gave them candy and gum as often as possible. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lena Marcello; three sisters and a brother. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Jack Pace passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. Jack was 70, a native of New Iberia and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a mechanical engineer having retired from Exxon in 1997 with 38 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps at Fort Lee, Va. Survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda R. Pace; daughters, Tappi Pace Waggenspack, Tina Pace, Lisa Pace Nugent and her husband, Steve; son, Chip Pace and his wife, Olga; stepsons, Scott Kaiser and his wife, Sharon, Steve Kaiser and Doug Kaiser; and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Lee Pace; and mother, Era Stoker Pace. He was a member of Graceworks Church, Bocage Racquet Club and University Club. He was a graduate of New Iberia High School and LSU. Memorial donations may be sent to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. Billie Van Scruggs Billie Van Scruggs
A retired Realtor and past president of Reynolds, Sumrow and Scruggs, he died peacefully after a full life on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, a diehard LSU fan and an avid dancer. He was 82, a native of Leesville and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Carroll and the Rev. Cliff Wright. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jewel Delagarza Scruggs; two daughters, Deborah Scruggs Heroman and husband Rickey Heroman, Baton Rouge, and Lisa Scruggs Ryan and husband Jeff Ryan, Dallas; and four grandchildren, Kelley and Cammie Heroman and Bonnie and Connor Ryan. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel Henry Scruggs and Cammie McNaughton Scruggs. Pallbearers will be Bert Beadle, Ted Castillo, Rickey Heroman, Jim Hundemer, Robert Roland and Jeff Ryan. Honorary pallbearers are Al Atkinson, Zeke Dunaway, Bruce MacMorran, Richard McDowell, Edward Narozniak, Jim Sumrow and John Tyner. He was an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and Faith Sunday School Class, a 1949 graduate of LSU, member of Sigma Chi fraternity, century and life loyal Sigma Chi, member and past president of Baton Rouge Board of Realtors, member of LSU Alumni Association and Capital City Kiwanis, past board member of Southside YMCA, member and past board member of American Legion Nicholson Post 38 and past member of LSU Gridiron Club. He received the Most Outstanding Realtor Award from the Baton Rouge Board of Realtors and served on the Louisiana State Board of Realtors.
