Alta Mable Lewis Jeffress

Alta Mable Lewis Jeffress, 92, of Crossett died Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Hamburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 9, 1907, to David Oscar and Carrie McDonald Lewis in Jonesboro, LA, she was a teacher for 37 years, a life member of the Arkansas and national Retired Teachers Associations, a member of the Louisiana Tech University Alumni since 1934, and a member of the United Methodist Women and the First United Methodist Church of Crossett. She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and her husband, Jewell M. Jeffress. Survivors include a special nephew, John David Allen of Crossett; three great-nephews, David, Donald and Calvin Allen, and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Rev. Larry Williams. Burial followed services at the Unity Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. submitted by Kim Torp
