Nashville,

afterward

Louisiana
and
settled

Feliciana
Parish

continued
the
practice
of
law,
which
he
later
abandoned
to
become
a
planter;
member
of
the
State
house
of
representatives
for
several
terms;
elected
in
1840
as
a
Whig
to
the
United
States
Senate
and
served
from
March
4,
1841,
until
his
death
in
Baltimore,
Md.,
December
29,
1846;
chairman,
Committee
on
Public
Buildings
(Twenty-seventh
Congress),
Committee
on
Militia
(Twenty-seventh
and
Twenty-eighth
Congresses);
interment

a
