GENEALOGY and HISTORY
Born at Putney, Vt., December 28, 1826. Removed to Michigan; thence to Knoxville, 1865. Lawyer. Judge of the Supreme Court, 1867-1870. Appointed Trustee of East Tennessee University, 1868; for several years Chairman of Executive Committee of Board; resigned as Trustee, 1884. United States District Attorney for Eastern District of Tennessee, 1871-1875. Trustee of Lawson McGhee Library at Knoxville from its organization in 1885 to his death.
