H.A. Harrison, the leading jeweler of Sault Sainte Marie, MI, and a young man of much promise in the affairs of his localiy, opened a little shop and store on Water street about March 2, 1887, and thence-forward was to be numbered among the business men of the "Soo." For a time his business was mainly along the line of repair work, which he did himself, but he grew gradually into a good trade in silver-ware and jewelry and later on added stationery. He was located on Portage street for several years, and in May 1894, occupied his prsent commodious quarters at No. 70 Ashman street.
Mr. Harrison was born near Whitby, Ontario, Canada, October 2, 1868. He attended public schools until 12 years of age, when he entered on his apprenticeship as a jeweler with G.m. Van Valkenburg, in Forest Ontario. He was a proficient workman in four years and secured employment in Glencoe, remaining there one year; was with Ryrie Brothers in Toronto nearly a year; was next in Marine City and before coming to his present location was in Detroit with Traub Brothers.
Mr. Harrison's father H.W. Harrison, is a businessman in British Columbia. He was born in Ontario 50 years ago. He married Miss Meaker, a native of NY and his children are H.A., May, W.R., Lena & Aubrey, the last 3 named being in Donald, B.C. H.A. Harrison was married at Sault Ste. Marie July 6, 1890 to Phoebe Lipsett a native of Menford, Gray Co. Canada, daughter of Francis Lipsett. Their children are Bernice and Russell. His is a mason and a knight of pythias.
