Originally established and spelled Gatesville on October 24, 1882 with Joseph Goetz as its first postmaster. Located in Chippewa County, DeTour Township, this town was settled in 1882 by the Goetz family who started a business in that same year. Members of the Goetz family at that time include: Joseph, Alois, Matthew, Paul and Alexander. The name changed to Goetzville on March 20, 1917.
