Ice Covered, Soo, MI (1912)
Lost for three days in one of the worst storms known to Lake Superior. When she reached the "Soo" she was coated with twenty inches of solid ice and it was necessary to use axes to release the captain and wheelsman from their pilot house prison.
Owing to the type of this boat (which is a half whaleback and rests very low in the water) the captain and wheelsman were held at their posts with neither sleep nor food, during the entire storm. The dining-room and state-rooms are in the stern and it was impossible to walk the deck on account of the heavy seas rolling over her.
