The bridge spans the St. Mary's River crossing between Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in Canada and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in the USA.
The opening of the International Bridge was in October of 1962 after two years of constructing this 2.8 mile long crossing. A toll is charged to cross the bridge but many are willing to pay the fee rather than reverting back to days before the bridge. A small ferry or rail car were the only forms of transportation before the International Bridge, making the trips considerably longer.
