Although born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, Hammy considered himself as a native of Sault Ste. Marie. He frequently spoke of how much he loved living in the Sault and of how many pleasures that could be found living in the “North Country” where he pursued two of his passions, hunting and fishing.
