MARIAN (POSTMA) VAN SLOTEN , age 78 of Rudyard, went peacefully to be with her Savior on Thursday, April 13, 2006, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Rudyard on July 26, 1927 to Chris and Tena Postma. Marion married Vern VanSloten on November 28, 1947. She was a life long member of the Rudyard Christian Reformed Church where she was an organist for many years. Marion was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her large family, playing the piano, the 4th of July, bird watching, the Detroit Tigers, and quilting. Marion was confined to a bed for nine years, but always displayed great patience and dignity.

Marion is survived by her husband and wonderful caregiver, Vern; four sons, Bernie (Chris) VanSloten, Ray (Sue) VanSloten, Jerry (Marsha) VanSloten, and Allan (Kathleen) VanSloten, all of Rudyard; three daughters, Jane Kamper of Rudyard, Gladys (Ken) Norris of Sault Ste. Marie, and Lynn (Keith) Wallis of Rudyard; grandchildren, Ron (Andrea) VanSloten, Pat (Michelle) VanSloten, David (Jill) VanSloten, Brian VanSloten, Laurie VanSloten, Aimee (Luke) Rice, Michael (Lee Ann) VanSloten, Christie (Keith) Tremblay, Jody (Chad) Smith, Jamie Kamper, Jennifer (Kevin) Laundy, Michelle (Paul) Grove, Melissa Leask, Kevin VanSloten, Lindsay VanSloten, Kyle VanSloten, Dana VanSloten, Craig Wallis and Leah Wallis; great-grandchildren, Brady, Bailey, Brett, Cora, Erika, Nathan, Max, Nick, Mav, Nash, Haley, Jamus, Braden, Taylor, Terin, Tori, Gannon, Tristin, Maddie, Macey, Kaden, Rileigh, Hunter, and Seth. Also surviving are two brothers, Chris (Marilyn) Postma and Jake (Carol) Postma, both of Rudyard. Marion was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Hoolsema. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 3 p.m. at the Rudyard Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Robert D. Steen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at North Rudyard Cemetery.

DOLLY (CRANE) VINCENT , age 94, of Sault Ste. Marie passed away on Monday, October 30, 2006 at Long Term Care in War Memorial Hospital. She was born January 4, 1912 in Petoskey, Mich. to Nellie (Nichols) and Clyde Crane. Dolly worked for a number of years at Northwestern Leather company. She was a member of the Moose and especially enjoyed dancing, playing cribbage, and visiting with her friends. She will be especially missed by her friends Carol Page and Caroline Deplonty, and niece Emma Jean Fowler.

Dolly is survived by her son, Robert C. Garrett of Sault Ste. Marie. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Debbie Camorata, Stephanie (David) Ness, Albert (Linda) Calascione, Stephen (Kimberly) Calascione, Lori (Bruce) Nilson, and Christopher (Dawn) Calascione, of Hammonton, N.J. and David (Renee) Garrett and Anna Garrett of Arizona. In addition, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and former daughter-in-law Grace Smith survive her. Dolly was preceded in death by her first husband, David Garrett; by her second husband Elgar Vincent; and by her daughter Mary Jane Calascione. Also preceding her in death were her siblings, Alethia Sadler, George Crane, Eva Johnston, and Clyde Crane. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Donaldson Cemetery with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Hovie Funeral Home.

ORNE VINING , 55, Kinross died at the home of Alex Hill, RR Dafter at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning July 24, 1935 of heat prostration. He had been suffering from heart trouble for some time. He was a member of the Dafter L.O.L. Surviving are a son Lloyd Lawrence, Dafter, and a daughter Mrs. Floyd Mines, Sault, a brother Ervin of Bay City.
