EWERT, William and Genevieve
Genevieve Ewert, who served as the Lawrence librarian for 21 years, and her husband, William, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house Sunday in the United MethodistChurch in Lawrence. The 3-to-6-p.m. gathering will be hosted by the Ewert’s six daughters: Mrs. Doan (Ruth) Griffin of Kissimmie, Fla., Mrs. Wesley (Mary) Beatty of Portage, Mrs. Janet Spencer of Stevensville, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Strefling of Lawrence, Mrs. James (Marjorie) Piecyk of Paw Paw, and Mrs. Steve (Patricia) Strefling of Lawrence. They also have 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ewert and the former Genevieve King were married on March 3, 1932, in South Bend. He is a Lawrence Roller Mills retiree while his wife was the Lawrence branch librarian from 1960 to her retirement in May of 1981 when the Lawrence Village Council proclaimed a “Genevieve Ewert Day” in the community.
