James H. Menzies; born, Caledonia, Mich., Dec. 1, 1850;
son of James and Sarah (Burns) Menzies; educated in district schools of Michigan; married at Detroit, Jan. 15, 1883, Bertha M. Koemling. Reared on farm; came to Detroit, 1867, and worked in general store two years; became connected with the Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Co., 1869, as checker on dock, and has continued consecutively as dock foreman, purser on steamer for twenty-two years, purchasing agent two years, and freight agent since Feb., 1902.
