(Granger) Kanter; educated in public schools of Detroit, in college at Racine, Wis., and South Bend, Ind., and at Kreuschin Institute, Dresden, Germany; married at Detroit, June 21, 1876, Fannie E. Mckay. Began business career as messenger German-American Bank, 1867, and advanced through various offices until 1906, when he was elected president (bank organized by his father, Edward Kanter, 1853). Henry Louis Kanter, banker; born, Island of Mackinac, Mich., Aug. 5, 1848; son of Edward and Fannie R. (Granger) Kanter; educated in public and private schools of Detroit, up to 1864 and at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., 1865; married at Detroit, Dec. 23, 1880, Marie L. Carmichael. Began active career with Edward Kanter, in shipping business, 1865, continuing until 1869; member firm of E. Kanter & Co., 1869-71; cashier German-American Bank Detroit, 1871-94, and now vice president; director Detroit Trust CO. since 1901. Member Board of Estimates City of Detroit, 1877-79; now member Mackinac Island State Park Commission, term expires, 1915. Presbyterian. Member Michigan Society Sons of American Revolution.
