Was born in what was then known as the " Long Point" country in Ontario, Canada.
His parents were originally from New Jersey. His mother, Rachael Morgan, was a
niece of General Morgan of the Revolution. His parents settled in Shelby, Macomb
county, where he lived until 1833, when he settled on a farm in Oxford, Oakland
county, and was the third settler in that township. He held nearly all town
offices, and in 1839, 1840 and 1843 was Representative in the legislature ; and
in 1851 State Senator. In politics a Democrat.
