BIOGRAPHIES

J. CARL HERMAN LEMKE
Pastor Lemke was born in Prussia, Germany on 25 November 1828. He emigrated to America in 1850. He was educated at Capital University, Columbus University, Columbus, Ohio (1850-1852) (Capital University was the seminary for the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and other States.)

He served as pastor of the following congregations:
Holy Ghost, Monroe, MI (1853-1862)
St. John 's, Waltz, MI (1857-1862)
St. Peter's-Halfway, (East Detroit) (1862-1872)
St. John's, Fraser, MI (1864-1871)
Trinity, Manistee, MI (1872-1899)

Pastor Lemke married Mary (nee) Buckel. They had nine children: Maria, John A., Elizabeth, Teresa, Augusta, Herman, Charles, William and Frederick. Pastor Lemke died 30 November 1914 and is buried in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Manistee, MI.
