 Menominee County was formed in 1863 from Marquette County, the county seat
is in Menominee. It is named for the Menominee Indians who were part of the
Great Lakes Algonquin Tribe. The Menominee Tribe are related to the
Chippewa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi Tribes, which are all part of the Upper
Pennisula and the Midwest.
