Welcome To
Menominee County Michigan

My name is Christine Walters , your Temporary Host for Menominee County, located in the "Upper Peninsula" which is that very unique part of Michigan unsurpassed in natural beauty. Surrounded by water, there is no other place like it in the United States, perhaps in the entire world. We hope to bring you a website that can truly be considered "your own." We welcome, and rely, on your contributions. This county is up for adoption,as are several other counties, so please visit our Volunteer Information Page and get in touch with Kim or myself if your interested in joining our group.

Menominee County was formed in 1863 from Marquette County, the county seat
is in Menominee. It is named for the Menominee Indians who were part of the
Great Lakes Algonquin Tribe. The Menominee Tribe as kissing cousins to the
Chippewa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi Tribes which are all part of the Upper
Pennisula and the Midwest.

This background is provided by Dick Lund's Great Lakes Ship Photos & More. Dick is a fantastic photographer and spends much of his time traveling and photographing ships and other points of interest. The ship in the background is the new Kwintebank, coming into Menominee April 10, 2006. She was built in 2002 in the Netherlands, replacing the old one, owned by Pot Sheepvart. In the foreground is the Menominee Lighthouse "North Pier." This station was established in 1877 on Lake Michigan, located at the end of the pier on the north side of the entrance to the Menominee River from Green Bay. First lit in 1927 it is active and operational today.
