LAURA (SHARP) DOUGAN - OF GRANT DIES
Funeral Rites for Aged Widow held Tuesday in Ashland Center.
Mrs. Laura Dougan 89 years old, prominent resident of the Grant community and Ashland township for the last 69 years, died Sunday at the home of her daughter Mrs Arthur Shippy. She was the wife of William Dougan , early Ashland township farmer who died last Nov 24th at the age of 90 years. Born Laura Sharp in Ohio, in 1851, She and William Dougan at ages 17 and 19, respectively, with another couple from Astabula Ohio, eloped across the Pennsylvania line to be married Nov 1st, 1868 by a kindly minister after the local justice had refused because of there ages. This romantic marriage was a long happy one, and in recent years the aged couple had been honored on the anniversary, there last having been 71 years. Three years after their marriage, the Dougans came to Ashland township in Newaygo county where they has spent the remander of there lifetimes. Since the death of Mr Dougan, at the farm, Mrs Dougan and her daughter, moved to Grant and had lived there. She was a member of Ashland Center Baptist Church. Surviving are four sons, George of Shingleton, Ira, Mesick, Glen and Jesse, Ashland. Thre daughters, Mrs Shippy, Mrs Lillian Richardson, all of Grant. 31 grandchildren and 33 ggrandchildren. The body laid in state at the Ashland center baptist church from 1pm to 2pm. Tuesday , the funeral services were conducted by Rev. DM Olmstead at 2pm with burial at Ashland center.

born April 8 1891 in Ashland Mich, died Dec 1988 in Ashland. He married Mildred Reinoldt June 14 1915 in Casnovia Mich, daughter of Frederick Reinoldt and Cora Bell

LEONARD M. DOUGAN
Leonard M. Dougan 57, of RD 1 West Springfied Pa, died Thursday in a traffic accident on Route 99, near McKean. Born in Grant Mich, he was the son of William amd Mildred Dougan. He was a US Navy Veteran of world war 11, and had been employed by consolidated Rail Corp as a brake conductor for the past 35 years. He was a member of South Erie Turners the American Legion and the United Tranportation Union. He was proceded in death by his wife, June Doyle Dougan and a brother Millard Dougan of Fremont Mich. Survived by three daughters Linda Dougan, Patricia Dougan and Diane Dougan of Erie, a sister Mrs William Myrick of Cheyanne Wyoming, his parents of Grant Mich, two granchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Brugger Home for Funerals, West 38th St. Saturday from 7 to 9pm and Sunday and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9, and are invited to services there Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass at St George Church at 10am. The parish vigil will be held at 4pm Monday. Internment will be in Calvery Cemetery.

WILLIAM DOUGAN - AGED FARMER IS SUMMONED
Funeral held from farm home for William Dougan, ASHLAND PIONEER.
William Dougan,90, a resident of Ashland Township since 1871, died at his farm home Friday morning following a long illness. Mr Dougan and Mrs Dougan observed the 71st anniversary of there marriage Nov 1st. Mr Dougan was born in Ashtabula. Ohio, May 24th 1849. His marriage Nov 1st to Miss Laura Sharp was an elopement in which the young couple, Mr dougan then 19 and the bride 17 crossed the state line into Pennsylvania and were married. Three years after they were married they came to Michigan and settled in Ashland Township, and made it there home since that time. Although Mr Dougan had been confined to his bed for the past three years, the couple always held a quiet observance of there anniversary, on which they received the greeting and good whishes of there many family and friends Surviving Mr Dougan besides his widow, Laura who is 88 years old, are four sons, George of Stanwood, Jess and Glenn of Ashland, and Ira of Mesick. Three daughters, Mrs Daisy Shippy of Ashland, Mrs Evangeline Stocker and Lillien Richardson both of Grant. Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2pm from the home, with Rev. DM Olmstead of Grant in charge. Burial was in
Ashland Cemetery.
