Newaygo, MI - (Schoolhouse - 1907) - Contributed by Paul Petosky

The settlers of Newaygo County came from a country of free schools, and their attachment to such institutions remained with them, and soon became manifest with their works. They believed that such agencies were the most powerful in advancing the condition of the people. The great Frenchman, Jules Simon, said: "That people which has the best schools is the best people; if it is not so to-day, it will be so to-morrow." The advance of the schools has more than kept pace with the increase in wealth and population.
