WILL ALLEN WAITE

WAITE, Will Allen, life insurance; born, Clarkston, Mich., Apr. 25, 1864; son of Waldo F. and Harriet (Allen) Waite; public school education; married, Manistee, Mich., June I5, 1902, Mattie E., daughter of Louis Sands, of Manistee. Began active career as telegraph operator .And ticket agent of the Flint & Pere Marquette R. R., and served at Milford, North Bradley and Manistee, Mich.; became bookkeeper for Canfield Salt and Lumber Co., Manistee, 1888; was merchant, operating two general merchandise stores in Manistee, 1893-1901; became connected with the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co., Dec., 1901 and has been associate manager at Detroit since 1901, first as member of firm of Arthur & Waite, then alone for one year and since Mar., 1905, as member of firm of Waite & Burgess. Secretary and treasurer, general manager, Association of the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Hartford, Conn.; secretary of the National Association of Life Underwriters. For many years an active worker in politics; county clerk and register of deeds, Manistee Co., 1891-93; president, pro tem, City of Manistee for two years; alderman three terms; member Republican County Committee of Manistee, and chairman Republican City Committee of Manistee for four years; has been delegate to Republican State conventions for fifteen years past, and served on three different occasions as secretary of the conventions. Aide-de-camp on staff of Gov. A. T. Bliss for four years, with rank of colonel. Member Board of Commerce. Congregationalist. Mason, Knight Templar. Club: Fellowcraft. Recreations: Baseball, fishing.
