Indian Lake, Manistique
The Native American burial ground was located near the present day Shrine to Father Bishop Baraga on Indian Lake in Manistique. Shelters were built over the burial plots to preserve food left by family members. It was believed that the departed continued to need substanence. Food continued to be provided for the departed relatives on special religious holidays and during harvest celebrations. Semo Ossawinamakee, son of the former chief, lovingly cared for the burial grounds during his lifetime.
