ALBERT AUGUST ALBRECHT
Albert August Albrecht, contractor and builder; born, Detroit, July 5, 1853; son of William and Caroline (Gutenschwager) Albrecht; educated in public schools of Detroit and Detroit Business Collage; married at Detroit, 1879, Louise M. Prompe. Began business career by assisting his father, who began as builder and contractor in Detroit, in 1857; name of firm became William Albrecht & Son; from 1877 to 1904 the business was conducted under the name of Albert A. Albrecht; in 1904 it was incorporated as The Albert A. Albrecht Co., of which is president and general manager. The firm of William Albrecht & Son built the Public Library building, Detroit, the State House of Corrections, at Ionia, Mich., and the Wayne Co. Savings Bank, previous to 1877; since then the company has built the following important buildings: The Union Trust Co’s building, the Penobscot building, the State Savings Bank building, the Masonic Temple, the Washington Arcade, the Stevens Block, the Morgan & Wright plant, Murphy Power plant, Edison Power House No. 1, and in course of construction, Edison Power House No. 2, Lee & Cady’s building, Gas Office building, and others.
