BURROWS H. ROTHWELL

Burrows H. Rothwell, real estate and stocks; born, Warwick, Ont., Mar. 9, 1846; son of Thomas Wade and Fanny M. (Alison) Rothwell; came to Michigan at age of 14; educated in common schools of Canada and at Holly, Oakland Co., Mich.; married at Davisburg, Mich., Mar. 5, 1867, Mary A. Merryweather. Spent the first fifteen years of his active career in railroad service in employ of Detroit, Grand Haven & Milwaukee R.R., as telegraph operator, station agent, etc., at Holly, Davisburg, Corunna and Fenton; has been engaged in general real estate business, insurance and loans at Detroit as Rothwell & Co., since 1890, and has handled some of the largest deals in the city; "got swamped" in financial panic of 1902-03, but recovered; negotiated sale of Scotten Tobacco Co’s plant to Oren Scotten; has dealt largely in Woodward Av. vacant property, and sold for John Curry, $165,000 Woodward Av. property, in 1905. Officer and director in many companies, among which are American Land Co., Mt. Clemens Sugar Co., United States Oil and Gas Co., Maple Valley Stock Ranch Co., etc., Senior major Dufferin Rifles, Brantford, Can., during return to Canada; alderman City of Brantford five years. Republican. Episcopalian. York and Scottish Rite Mason (32o), Knights Templar, Shriner (Zion Blue Lodge, Minerva Chapter, Damascus Commandery, Moslem Temple). Recreations: Outdoor sports.
