Began active career in clothing business at Ypsilanti, Mich., continuing until 25; then engaged for ten years in retail shoe business at Escanaba, Mich.; located in Detroit, 1892, and became member of firm of McRae & Roberts Co.; organized the Sterling & Skinner Manufacturing Co., 1902, and has since been president of the company.
