STERLING, Ruluff R.; born, Sterling’s Mills, Mich., Apr. 20, 1858; son of Leander and Sarah (Van Vlack) Sterling; educated in public schools of Wayne Co., Mich.; married at Buffalo, N.Y., 1892, Sarah A. Thomas. Began active career in clothing business at Ypsilanti, Mich., continuing until 25; then engaged for ten years in retail shoe business at Escanaba, Mich.; located in Detroit, 1892, and became member of firm of McRae & Roberts Co.; organized the Sterling & Skinner Manufacturing Co., 1902, and has since been president of the company. President Clark Wireless Telegraph and Telephone Co., Cowles & Danziger Co., Harrington Cigar Co.; director Detroit Motor Casting Co., Manufacturers’ Motor Power and Building Co.
