STEWART, Albert Edwin

STEWART, Albert Edwin; born, Harsen’s Island, Mich., Sept. 23, 1847; son of Garret G. and Charlotte (Kendrick) Stewart; educated in public schools; married at Detroit, June 19, 1884, Minnie E. Tietsort. Born and reared on a farm; served in 22d Michigan Volunteers, in Civil War, two years, 1864-65; worked on the docks at Saginaw, Mich., 1866, and was employed as clerk in country store, St. Clair Co., 1867-68; wheelsman on lake tug on Detroit and St. Clair rivers, became first mate of the vessel and vessel master, 1876-92; assisted in organization of the Stewart Transportation Co., 1892, of which has since been vice president and general manager. Member state legislature, 1897-99; supervisor of properties for Board of Education, Detroit, since May 1, 1907. Republican. Scottish Rite Mason, Knight Templar, Shriner. Member Detroit Post, G.A.R., Board of Commerce. Office; Board of Education. Address: 93 Garfield Av.
