TRUE,
George A., president Northern Engineering Works; born, Funchal, Island of
Madeira (father United States consul at Funchal), Sept. 16, 1863; son of George
A. and Susan (,Laughrey) True; educated at Mt. Vernon (O.) High School and
Western Reserve School of Design, Cleveland, O.; married, Myrtle Wylie Hutton,
who died, 1901; again, Detroit, 1904, Sallie D. Russell. Began engineering work
in office of the Mt. Vernon Bridge Co., about 1887; after a short stay at Kansas
City came to Detroit, 1889, and was with Detroit Car Wheel Co. and Detroit
Foundry Equipment Co., the latter locating, 1894, at Harvey, Ill.; came to
Detroit, 1897, as receiver of Frontier Iron Works; organized with others the
Northern Engineering Works, 1899, of which was manager until 1905, since which
time has been president. Also vice president Detroit Engineering Works,
Incorporated. Member Society of Arts and Crafts, Detroit Etching Club, Detroit
Fine Arts Society. Presbyterian. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Boat. Recreations:
Etching, oil and water color painting and mycology (study of fungi and
