William Prescott Allen

ALLEN, WILLIAM PRESCOTT, lumberman, b. in Thomaston, Me., Sept. 1, 1843; d. in Portland, Maine, in August, 1908. He served in the First Iowa Cavalry, and later in the 65th U. S. Infantry, attaining the rank of captain; settled in Minnesota at the close of the war; after 1881 resided at Cloquet, and was general manager and vice-president of the C. N. Nelson Lumber Company; was a member of the state senate, 1891-5.

ANDERSON Davis C, Carlton. Publisher. Born Oct 1, 1868 in LaFayette Ia, son of Isaac L and Elizabeth Jane (Griffin) Anderson. Educated in public schools and agricultural college. Engaged in printing business 1891; purchased Carlton Co Vidette 1892 and has been publisher of same to date. Former county treas and judge of probate; now pres Board of Education, court comnr and justice of the peace. Member I O O F; Commercial Club.

BOLIN John H, Cloquet. Supt The Diamond Match Co. Born Aug 13, 1873 in Bollsta Sweden, son of Erick J and Carin (Ulander) Bolin. Emigrated to U S 1896. Graduated from Augustana College Rock Island Ill 1900. First employed as matchmaker in Menominee Mich 1896-99; chief bkpr for the Square Peoples House Furn Co Menominee until 1905; moved to Cloquet as supt of the Diamond Match Co 1905 and continues same to date. Member Commercial Club of Duluth; Menominee Lodge 269 A F & A M: Chapter 107 R A M; Commandery 35 K T.

Graduated from Wilson Union School N Y 1884; attended Mt Union College Ohio 1888-89. Raised on farm in Niagara county N Y. Taught school in Wilson, Tonawanda and Lewiston N Y. Studied law Lockport N Y 2 years; moved to Saginaw Mich 1889; city editor Saginaw Evening Journal 2 years; admitted to practice law 1890; opened law office Saginaw W S; moved to Saginaw E S 1891; moved to Duluth Minn 1893 and practiced law in W Duluth; edited Daily Law Bulletin in Duluth 5 years; moved to Cloquet and practiced law 1898 to date. City atty Cloquet. Treas Central Block Co. Member Minn House of Representatives.

Practiced in Danbury Ia until 1903; moved to Cloquet and has been engaged in practice of his profession to date. Served as mayor Danbury Ia; sec Democratic Country Central Committee.
