Mansfield Began In Post Office
Albert Lea Tribune
Sunday, July 4, 1976, Pg 1

In 1857 a post office was established in Mansfield and James M. Emerson was appointed postmaster.

Later in 1891, farmers met in the John Niebuhr hall in Mansfield and a creamery association was organized. Shortly afterward, another creamery organization was formed.

Representatives from both groups met and a compromise was reached. The Mansfield Central Creamery Company
was built on land owned by W. B. Tunell. A man named Welch was the butter maker.

The country store was erected in 1902. Across from the store stood an early blacksmith shop. Much of the land around the community is said to have been owned at one time by members of the Katzung families.
