Laurel Leader Call, date unknown, (date of death 6/6/1946)
Mrs. G. B. Quimby, beloved mother and grandmother of a large family, died at 1:20 a. m. Thursday, June 6th, following a long illness. Funeral sevrecis (sic) will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in Indian Springs church, with burial in Hickory Grove cemetery, by the side of her husband.
Mrs. Quinby, a devout member of the Baptist church, held her membership in the Second Avenue Baptist church. She spent many years of her life in the neighborhood of that church.
She was born in Clarke county, January 7, 1861, and moved to Jones county about 1902 when Mr. Quimby came here to operate a large farm. When they were not farming they lived in Laurel until Mr. Quimby died in 938 (1938). After that time Mrs. Quimby divided her time with her children, making her home with a daughter, Mrs. Ben Grafton, and a son Felis Quimby, Route 5, Laurel.
Among the survivors are three children: Mrs. Grafton, Mr. Quimby, and Ottis Quimby, Mobile; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The grandchildren are: Mrs. Dee Hinton, Noel Valentine, Laurel; Roy and Earl Grafton, Rt. 6; Hollis, Iris, Beryl and Clifton Quimby, Rt.5, laurel; Maj. Jas. O. Quimby, Jr. U. S. A.., Edgewood Md., O. C. Hull, U. S. N. now a atomic bomb testing ground.
Mrs. Galyord (sic) Morse, Mobile, Hartwell Hull, Mrs. Hilton Walker, and Jack Valentine, Hattiesburg also survive.
The Rev. Varney Moss and the Rev. Mr. Gardner will officiate.
The body will remain at the home of Felis Quimby until time for the funeral.
