Surrounding
Counties
In 1803, Missouri became a
territory as a result of the Louisiana
Purchase. In the 1820's, Kirksville
started to become settled.
The county was named
after a notable Kentucky resident, John
Adair, because many settlers were coming
from Kentucky.
