Obituary of Richard Bucam Robertson
Tarkio Avalanche, Rock Port, Missouri, October 2, 1931
R. B. Robertson Dies Suddenly; Was On Business Trip; Lifelong Resident of County
Passes On At Age of 72; Funeral Held Tuesday
Richard Bucam Robertson, life-long resident of Atchison county, and
for many years near Tarkio, died suddenly last Saturday, while visiting
in the western part of the county. By a coincidence Mr. Robertson passed away
within a short distance of the place of his birth, and while
conversing with a lifelong friend, Sedgwick Scammon.
Mr. Robertson had had a slight accident with his car, and with the
help of Mr. Scamman was preparing to get it out of a ditch, when a heart
attack came on, and he passed away with in a few minutes.
Mr. Robertson was born, January 4th, 1859, in the western part of
the county, where he grew to young manhood, spending most of his time on the
farm. He planned t o enter the medical profession, and studied for some time to
prepare himself. Finding it impossible to continue in his
chosen field, he returned to farming but later took up the selling of
proprietary medicine throughout this part of the country, at which
business he attained more than ordinary success and gained for himself many
friends throughout the county.
He was married to Emma Frances Bale on February 4th, 1881, and
established his home near Tarkio, where he resided until his death. The
widow and one son, Roy Richard of Kilgore, Texas, survive. A cousin, Mrs.
D. C. Simmons of Salem, Neb., is the only remaining near relative,
his brothers and sisters having preceded him in death.
The deceased united with the Christian church at Westboro in 1892,
and transferred his member ship to the Tarkio church the year following
its organization. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for many years.
Mr. Robertson was a quiet, unassuming man, always kindly and
considerate of those with whom he came in contact, and making friends
wherever he chanced to be. He was industrious and temperate, fulfilling
his every obligation without hesitancy -- in short, was a citizen o f
the finest character at all times.
Funeral services were conducted at the home northeast of Tarkio on
Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. R. A. Karraker, former pastor of the
Tarkio Christian church. Burial was in Home cemetery, with the services in
charge of the local Masonic lodge.

WILLIAM ELI ROBERTSON 1837-1908
William Eli Robertson was born in Ray county Missouri, Aug. 20,
1837; moved to Atchison co Missouri October, 1850; was converted and united
with the Christian church in 1860, under the ministry of Elder John O. White.
He was married to Comfort Richardson, Oct 19, 1862, near Union
City. He enlisted with the State militia in Missouri during the
Civil War,
until November 1864, when he entered the regular service and was honorable
discharged at Mobile, Alabama in Nov. 1865.
He moved to Shubert, NE in 1870, united with the Christian church
of that place of which he remained a member until his death, June 20,
1908,
in Rockport, MO.
Of his family his wife and one daughter, Bell, preceded him to the
other world, while six children remain viz: Jesse, now living in Peru,

in Wallace, ID; and Herbert, in Rockport, MO. His wife died in
1891 and his daughter about six years ago.
Deceased was always peaceable, of quiet disposition, honored and
respected by all who knew him. He had been afflicted for sometime but
was tenderly cared for at the home of his sister, Mrs. David M. Myers, In
Rockport, MO, even as his father had been before him, the
affectionate attention of his sister being ably seconded by her husband.
The attack which closed his earth life came unexpectedly to them
all and was soon over just as he had hoped it would be. He died in the
faith in which he had lived, being, as he had often said, "ready to go."
Our deepest sympathies are with his sister, Mrs. Myers, the only
remaining member of his father's family and with his children and all other
relatives.
May his mistakes, if he made any, be avoided and his virtues
cherished and emulated by all who knew him.
