The following is credited to the Columbia Herald-Statesman of Nov. 24, 1927:
Mrs. Alice Keene, 217 Second Avenue, Columbia, celebrated her seventy-ninth birthday Saturday, Nov. 19.
Mrs. Keene is the youngest and only living child of the late David and Cynthia Shock, two Boone County pioneers.
She was born four miles north of Columbia on the farm now owned by her son, Ed Keene.
Her husband was James H. Keene, who died Dec. 22, 1908.
Mrs. Keene now makes her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Talbert.
Mrs. Keene is well informed on Boone County history and has many valuable papers and relics,
among which is a government deed to the land upon which she was born, and which was entered by her father.
She is also prominent in the annual Shock family reunion and always looks forward to the gathering.contributed by: Peggy Luce
