On February 22, 1929, Aunt Alice Keene passed to her reward after a lingering illness. She was the last of the children of David H. and Cynthia Shock,
and was born on the old homestead north of Columbia, where the 1926 reunion was held, and has always taken an important part in all gatherings.
At three meetings she has been the oldest lady present, but at the Centralia meeting of 1927 that honor was given to Aunt Nancy Nichols of Hannibal.
Her husband, James H. Keene, died December 22, 1908 and she is survived by three children, Mrs. J. H. Talbert, Mrs. J. H. Jenkins and Ed. Keene,
besides a number of great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Clara, passed on in 1907.

 

*In this connection it will be well to record the passing of two other good women who died in Columbia the same week - Mrs. Eva (Fenton) Bradley and Mrs. Mary (Lampton) Stone.
These three, while no blood relation, were closely related by marriage among different generations, were born within a few miles of each other, grew up together,
and now, all three rest in the same church yard.

 

Aunt Alice will be missed at the reunion this year, but the part she took in former meetings and the joy and satisfaction she
had in meeting with us is but another inspiration to us to keep the good work going and each meeting bigger and better.
