Named after William Taylor Barry, from Kentucky, a U.S. Postmaster.
County seat is Cassville.

BARRY COUNTY

This county is situated in the south-west corner of the State. The land is generally undulating and fertile, with a good division of prairie and timber. Great inducements are here offered to those wishing to engage in farming, mining, manufacturing or stock raising. There are few counties in the State where each of the above branches of industry can be prosecuted more successfully. All kinds of grain, fruit, and vegetables do well and return an abundant yield. The great drawback to this section is the want of an outlet to market, but the day is not very distant, when the south-western branch of the Pacific railroad will be completed. The northern part of the county is well supplied with good building material, and lead ore in considerable quantities have been found.
