|Mrs. Lucinda Kennedy
Oldest Woman in Missouri
Aurora, MO., Dec. 17- Barry County, Missouri, claims to have the oldest lady living in the State. Mrs. Lucinda Kennedy, residing 10 miles southwest of Aurora, celebrated her one hundred and third anniversary today at the old homestead, upon which she and her husband, who is now dead, settled 53 years ago. She is in good health, enjoying the use of all her facilities. She was born near Lexington, Ky., in 1792, and was married at the age of 16. She is the mother of 11 children, all dead but one daughter, Mrs. Mattingly, now aged 68 years. Mrs Kennedy has 90 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 27 great great grandchildren, 130 of whom, with others assembled at her home today to do her honor. Her mother died at the age of 108 years and her grandmother at the age of 102. Her memory seems perfect and she today related many stories of how her parents had to guard themselves against the Indians while she was 12 years old in the State of Kentucky.
She tells how they wove all their own clothing, cut wheat with reap hooks, etc. The first railroad she saw was after the war, when the Frisco was extended west from Rolla. She is surrounded with all the luxuries of life, on the old homestead, consisting of 440 acres of valuable land. She visits her friends living in the vicinity, and last week rode six miles on a visit. In fact, judging from her apparent strength, it seems as though she might yet see other birthdays. Among her descendants are some of the most formost and highly honored citizens of this community.
