I, Philip Adams of the County of Callaway and State of Missouri, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say --
First, my will and desire is that my estate be kept together until the first day of January Eighteen Hundred and Forty Seven, except so much as shall be necessary to pay my debts -- under the control and management of my Executors ---
Second, I divise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Matilda Adams in line of her dower all my estate, both real and personal during her natural life.
Third, I give and divise to my eldest son Thomas P. Adams -- at the death of my wife Matilda Adams, the farm on which I now reside containing One Hundred Acres--also one negroe man named Daniel, and further confirm the right and title of all I have heretofore given him
Fourth: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary F. Chappell, one negro man named Briton and one negroe girl named Fanny -- also five hundred dollars to be paid by Thos. P. Adams & Jno. B. Adams my executors out of the proceeds of the sale of property belonging to my estate -- said amount to be paid in twelve months after the death of my wife and also confirm the right and title in what I have heretofore given her.
Fifth: I give and bequeath to my son Jno B. Adams one Negroe man named Brister, one boy named Anderson and one Negroe woman named Phelby and her heirs and also one negroe man named Albert which said negroe he is to take possession of at present and also confirm the right and title of what I have given him heretofore.
Sixth: I give to my daughter Susan W. Foster, five dollars and confirm what I have given her heretofore.
Seventh: I give to my son Jno B Adams my wagon and two horses the balance of my estate after paying legacees and debts to be equally divided between my two sons Thomas P. Adams & Jno B. Adams.
And now lastly -- I hereby constitute and appoint my two sons Thomas P. and Jno B. Adams to be my executors to this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this Twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Forty Four.
