BERT & ELISHA BURGESS

1951

Double funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Stoutland Christian Church for brothers who died less than 24 hours apart.

The services were conducted by the Rev. Henry Knight, assisted by Rev. Jack Clark.  Special songs were by Mrs. Henry Clark, who sang “Lead Kindly Light, “ and “Abide With Me.”

Burial was in the city cemetery in Stoutland under the direction of Evans funeral home.

Elisha Burgess, 82 was born in 1869 and died Thanksgiving day, Nov. 22.  His brother, Bert was 76 years old, and was born in 1875.  His death occurred at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23.

Elisha Burgess is survived by a son, Alvin, of Fullerton, California, and two grandchildren.  A daughter, Freda, preceded him in death.  He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Bert Burgess had never married and had spent most of his life in the home of his brother, who cared for him in a wonderful way, as Bert has been blind for several years.  The brothers died at their home in Stoutland, where they had spent most of their life.
