This is we believe a picture of Richard Pope Helm who was the son of
Thomas Helm and Johanna Hathaway Helm. It is in family records that
he moved his family from his Warrenton, Fauquier, Virginia farm to
Carroll County, Missouri about 1859. We do know that he married
Eleanor Smith on September 25, 1843. They had the following
children: James Thomas Helm, Frances Elizabeth Helm, Johanna Eleanor
Helm, Lucinda Jane Helm, Richard Hathaway Helm, Lina P Helm, Harriet
Roberta Helm, George William Helm, Henry Clay Helm and Mary Emma
Helm. His wife Eleanor died in 1864. The then married Roberta
Collett on December 23, 1866, they had one son, John Helm. Richard
Pope Helm died October 23, 1873 at Bosworth, Carroll County,
Missouri. |

Johanna Eleanor Helm was born November 20, 1848 to Richard Pope Helm
and Johanna Smith at Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia. She moved
with her parents to Carroll County, Missouri in about 1859. She
married Benjamin Humphries on December 22, 1867. They had the
following children, most were born in Carroll County: Elizabeth E.
Humphries, Major Pope Humphries, Benjamin G. Humphries, Virginia M.
Humphries, Robert Hale Humphries and George L. Humphries. I am not
sure when they moved out of Carroll County, but Joanna died in 1888 at
Ragsdale, Fannin, Texas. From a letter in the possession of Hugh
Arnold it appears that "Ella" suffered greatly for many weeks prior to her
death. It states that she died at half past eight but does not have
a day or month, only the year on the postmark. |

age he moved with his family to Carroll County, Missouri settling in De
Witt, Carroll, Missouri around 1859. He married Julia Stand, ley,
daughter of Bartlett Standley and Nancy Mahaney, on March 22, 1876 at
Bosworth, Carroll County, Missouri. They began their family in
Carroll County with the births of six children: Edna Blanche Helm
(my grandmother), Violet Julia Helm, Lina Douglass Helm, Charlie

Elvira Standley was born on December 20, 1830 to Hugh Standley and
Delilah Ashby. Some family members believe she was born in Adair
County, Kentucky but I have not found anything to prove that she wasn't
born in Missouri. She married Green Gentry on August 2, 1846 in
Carroll County, Missouri. No children were born of this union.
She married Larkin Humphries in August 1869 in Carrollton,
Carroll County. The picture to the left is that of them
and Ruth Winfrey, Poly Beaty, Gene Ann. I am unsure whose
children these are so hopefully someone can identify them and let me
know. Elvira died on March 13, 1909 and is buried in the Wharton
Cemetery near Bosworth, Carroll,
Missouri. |
