Henry Clay Helm, was born near the town of Warrenton,
Fauquier County, Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains on October 17th, 1858
and died in a hospital in Carrollton, Missouri October 19th, 1933. Age 75 years
and 8 days. He had been in failing health for the past eight months, but
bore his suffering bravely, always meeting his family and friends with a
smile. He was one of a family of thirteen children of Richard P. and

address, Lina P. of Wewoka, Oklahoma; and George W. of Albequerque, New Mexico
and one sister, Mrs. Emma Foster of Petaluma, California survive him. On

Slater, all of the home address and Casper K. of Kansas City, Mo. all of whom
survive him, with his wife, together with eight grand children. In
1933 he united with the Christian Church at Rockford. His father, in
1859 sold his Virginia farm and came to Missouri traveling by train to St.
Lewis, crossing the Mississippi River by boat and from St. Lewis to Syracuse,
Missouri by stage coach and from there came to Carroll County locating hear what
at that time was known as Baum's Mill, afterward locating on a farm east of
Bosworth in Rockford township in which the deceased lived the remainder of his
life, and in his passing the family loses a faithful husband, a devoted father,
and the community an honest upright citizen and a good friend and neighbor
especially in times of need. On the pages of history we write the names of
these, who perhaps just one deed, just one act of outstanding achievement,
entitles them to live in the records of our nation. Winning a battle does
not make a nation great. iving to the nation an invention also plays a
minor part in marking our country a leader in the affairs of the world. We
must give our great leaders in all past generations due credit for their fine
service. But the next (millions) whose names are not preserved by recorded
history and their graves are unmarked, must be given honored placers when an
invoice is taken. Plans and ystem of living are presented by a few, but
they must be observed and practiced by the citizenship if they are to be
beneficial. Henry Helm belonged to that great majority who by giving their
support and influence to the instutions which made America the greatist nation
in the world. The home is our greatest institution, Edgar A. Grant says
"It takes a heap of living to make a home.". Mr. Helm establisted the kind
of home Mr. Grant speaks of in this beautiful poem. A home isn't just the
future we live in with our family. Thats just the heart of the home. A
home is not restricted to walls and floors, but it extends our in all directions
until it covers the entire community. Yes, it takes a heap of living to
make a home. Just a home in, a selfish sense, but it takes a heap, and a
heap of living to make a community home. That's the kind of home Mrs. Helm
maintanined and that the kind of homes which sustain our nation in wars and
depressions. Mr. Helm lived his years remarkably well and has received a
honorable discharge. (poem follows, but I omitted it here). Interment was
in the Wharton Cemetery.
