Elizabeth S. Magruder, age
94, of Carrollton, Missouri, died May 20, 1999, at the Carroll County Memorial
Hospital in Carrollton. She was born May 5, 1905, in Sanger, Texas, the
daughter of Joe and Ada Frances King Forbes. She attended school in
Armstrong, Missouri, and was a seamstress. She was a member of the
Carrollton First Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. On September 5,
1923, she was married to Lemuel B. Magruder in Moberly, Missouri. He
preceded her in death on March 10, 1977. Survivors include two daughters,
Edna Frances Willis, and Sarah Ellen Basnett, both of Jefferson City, Missouri;
a son, James Lemuel Magruder, and his wife, Darla, of Carrollton; fourteen
grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one
daughter, one sister, three brothers, and three grandchildren. Graveside
services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Carroll Memory Gardens,
Carrollton, conducted by Reverend Ron Marsh. Visitation will be from 7:00
to 8:30 P.M., Friday, at the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton. The family
suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs.
Magruder.
MANNING – Rites for William Green Manning. Funeral services for William Green Manning, 79 years old, who died yesterday (October 15, 1940) at his home, 430 Potter Avenue, will be at 2 o’clock Friday at the Sheil Chapel, 6066 Independence Avenue. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Almeda Skinner, 709 West Seventh Street; Mrs. Edna Richardson of the home and Mrs. Bessie Richardson, 426 Potter Avenue. Obituary from the Kansas City Star. October 16, 1940. William Green Har(t)grove was born 19 March 1861 in Eugene Township, Carroll Co., MO., the son of Bennett M. Hartgrove and Mary Catherine Winfrey. William Green Hargrove aka/Manning married Sarah Ellen Adkins, 22 January 1891, in Carroll County, MO, daughter of Philip Adkins and Martha Harmon. Sarah Ellen Manning died of cancer on 07 May 1929 in Gorin, Scotland Co., MO. (submitted by Juanita Schneider)
Nova Edgar Mansfield, age 96, formerly
of rural Bogard, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Life Care
Center, Carrollton, Missouri. Nova was born February 3, 1908 at rural
Locksprings, Missouri, the son of Oliver and Bertha Leticia Bills
Mansfield. He attended Brookshire Country School near Locksprings and was
a member of the Locksprings Methodist Church. He was a farmer and spent most of
his lifetime in Carroll County. He had served on the Van Horn Township
Board. On December 19, 1931, he was united in marriage to Alta Irene Lightfoot
at the United Methodist Church in Carrollton. She preceded him in death on
November 12, 1999. Survivors include four daughters, Freda Trussell and Joyce
Citron, Bogard, Missouri, Judy White, St. Joseph, Missouri, Jane Collins, Nixa,
Missouri; two sons, Edgar Mansfield, Independence, Missouri and Darrell
Mansfield, Tina, Missouri; one brother, Ralph Mansfield, Kearney, Missouri;
twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren and four great great
grandchildren.
Nova was also preceded in death by his parents, three
brothers, one sister and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be
at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton,
Missouri, with Reverend Bruce Trussell officiating. Burial will be in
Coloma Cemetery, Coloma, Missouri. Mr. Mansfield will lay in state on
Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, from
2:00-7:00 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Harold Hugh Mansur, age
71, of the Stet community, died May 11, 1999, at the Carroll County Memorial
Hospital in Carrollton. He was born May 22, 1927, in Ray County, Missouri,
the son of Roy and Mae Kavanaugh Mansur. He graduated from Stet High
School. A lifelong Carroll County farmer, he also served as the Standard
Oil Agent for thirteen years. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church
of Norborne, Missouri. On May 18, 1945, he was married to Jaunita Lois
Carr in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives at the home. Other
survivors include one son, Mark Mansur, and wife Cheryl, Carrollton; two
daughters, Carol Newham, and husband, Bob Ed, Norborne, and Kay LaJoie,
Carrollton; one sister, Kathryn Temple, Overland Park, Kansas; one brother,
Donald Mansur, Gladstone, Missouri; six grandchildren, Barbara Stiek, Robert
Mansur, Mike Newham, Ryan Newham, Jason LaJoie, and Joel LaJoie; three
great-grandchildren, Kaleb Newham, Hannah Grace Mansur and Ben Brockway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Robert
Mansur, and a sister, Wilma Lungren. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M.,
Saturday, May 15, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. Friends may
call at the residence anytime before or after the service. The family
suggests contributions to Leukemia Research, H.E.L.P. Cancer Services, or
Antioch Cemetery in memory of Mr. Mansur
Frances
Kinsey McKinney, 97, of Macon, passed away on July 24, 2001, at the
Samaritan Hospital in Macon; Mrs. McKinney was born on July 17, 1904, in
Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of William Austin and Eulalia Conway Kinsey;
she married Leo E. McKinney on August 28, 1928; she was a member of the St.
Louis Trinity Methodist Church;surviving are two sons, Robert W. and his wife,
Melinda McKinney of Benson, Arizona, Thomas A. and his wife, Tina McKinney of
Tucson, Arizona; two daughters, Jane A. and her husband, Thomas Lane of Macon,
Mary S. and her husband, Gary Daubersmith of Ketchikan, Alaska; fourteen
grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; one daughter, Ann C. Wehling and one sister, Mary Katherine
Rand. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2001 at the HUTTON
& McELWAIN Funeral Home in Macon, with Rev. Michael Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Macon. Visitation will be from 9-10,
Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Myasthenia Gravis,
Samaritan Hospital Foundation or the Macon Public Library and may be left at the
funeral home.
James Bruce McKenzie, age 71,
died April 28, 2005 of complications from pneumonia following a long struggle
with cancer and cardio pulmonary disease. Born in Kansas City, Missouri July 17,
1933 to Robert Seaton McKenzie and Maybelle Evelyn Sherman McKenzie. His family
moved frequently during his childhood, possibly leading to Jame's nomadic
spirit. He attended six elementary schools and two high schools before
graduation in 1951 from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
Following service in the US Army, James attended University of Missouri School
of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri. He graduated in 1959, achieving a
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering. On July 23,
1956 James married Charlotte Ruth Witte, a farm raised girl from
Norborne, Missouri. They had four children: Michael Seaton, Charlotte
Cathleen, Marsha Ann Swartzfager (Pat) and Diana Lynn Merriman (Stewart). In
January 1960 James moved his family to Treadway, Tennessee to begin a career in
underground production mining, design, and civil construction. His work led to
jobs in all parts of the United States. Over 35 years in the industry, he was
involved in well over 100 projects spanning 39 States. In July 1973, he settled
his family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Centennial Development Company employed him
until 1983 when he became self-employed in freelance engineering and design. He
was a Registered Professional Engineer in four Western States. In 1994 he
retired to work on a summer home on the Strawberry River near Duchesne, Utah.
James loved fishing and the outdoors. James was a gifted musician. Though he
never learned to read music, he was self-taught on the guitar and piano. For
many years he played lead guitar in a professional country /western band. His
younger brother and sister were accomplished musicians as well. The three of
them together always brought hours of beautiful folk/bluegrass music. His wife,
four children, three grandchildren and brother William Sherman McKenzie of
Columbia, MO survive James. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother
John Robert and sister Mary Katherine Skeens. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses
and staff of the Salt Lake VA hospital for their wonderful care and support. In
lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association. Burial
and Services will be on May 2, 2005 at Mountain View Memorial, 3115 East 7800
South, Salt Lake City, Utah at 2 p.m., with a viewing at 1 p.m.
John Patrick (J.P.) Miller Jr., age 56, of Hardin,
Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at his home in Hardin,
Missouri. J.P. was born August 17, 1951 in Memphis Tenn. He attended
Carrollton Grade and High School. He graduated in 1969. He was in the United
States Navy . J.P. worked for Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe Railroad as a
Signal Maintainer for Thirty-three and a half years where he took electronics
training. J.P. was a member of the United Methodist Church of
Carrollton, Missouri, Wakanda Lodge # 52 AF and AM, Ararat Shrine of Kansas
City, Missouri, Carroll County Shrine Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles # 3917,
Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Brotherhood of Railroad Signal Men, Boy Scout Troop
414 of Carrollton, Missouri, Life Scout, I.O.O.F. of Lexington, Missouri.
J.P. is survived by one daughter Johnna Den`e Miller Schick, Richmond, Missouri,
His father Gerald L.Heins Sr., Carrollton, Missouri, two brothers James Miller

Carrollton, Missouri, one sister Gerry L. Germann and husband Kenny of

Hinson Sadler, Liberty, Missouri, three Grandchildren Steven L. Logsdon, Lacey
A. Logsdon, Brayden D. Schick all of Richmond, Missouri, several nieces ,
nephews and cousins. His mother Ivah C. Heins, his Paternal
grandparents Walter and Dorris Heins, Maternal grandparents Henry and Virginia
Hinson preceded J.P. in death. Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri,
with Chaplain Tom Blake officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery,
Norborne, Missouri. Visitation will be Wednesday June 18, 2008 from
7-8:30 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton, Missouri with Masonic Services
at 8:30 p.m..
Carl Gene Moss, Sr., was born on January 22, 1946, in Norborne, Missouri. He was the son of the late Lee Roy Moss and Hester Byron Moss. Carl attended Lincoln and Dietrich Schools in Carrollton, Missouri. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1963. He attended Penn Valley Community College before joining the Army in 1965. In 1954, Mr. Moss united with Christ at Virginia Street Baptist Church in Carrollton, Missouri. Upon Carl's retirement from the Army in 1989, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He was employed by the Kansas City Missouri Public School District until his health began to fail. Mr. Carl Gene Moss, Sr., depated this life on Friday, April 6, 2001 at St. Joseph Hosiptal, Kansas City, Missouri. Carl leaves to mourn his passing; two sons, Carl Moss, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri and Matthew Moss of Louisville, Kentucky; one daughter, Cynthia Moss of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Ms Wilma Dawkins and Norma Moss, both of Kansas City, Missouri; and two brothers, William Moss and Emmett Moss of Kansas City, Missouri; fifteen nieces and nephews; twenty-two great nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services held at Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel, Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 10 AM, Rev. John Modest Miles officiating. Interment: Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS, 12:30 PM.
Alvena Faye Myler, age 85, a life long resident of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Faye was born January 18, 1922 in Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of William Lewis and Mary E. (Williams) Lightfoot. She graduated from Carrollton High School. Faye was first married to Carr W. Lane on April 2, 1938, and later married William J. Myler on November 12, 1957. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1981. Faye was a housewife. Her parents and two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Reverend Ken Prewitt officiating. The body lay in state prior to the service on Thursday at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri. The family suggests contributions be made to the Southside Baptist Church of Carrollton in memory of Mrs. Myler. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S.
