BERNARD ZICK, circuit clerk. The subject of this sketch is a native of Germany and was born in Speier-on-the-Rhine March 9, 1842. He was there reared to manhood and received his education from the schools of that vicinity. In 1854 he emigrated to America and settled in Marion County, Illinois, where he resided until the breaking out of the war when he was commissioned 1st lieutenant of Company B, 8th Illinois Infantry. When near the close of the war he returned to Illinois, and in 1871 he was elected sheriff and collector of Marion County, serving one term. In 1874 he removed to Missouri and located at Pleasant Hill, where he engaged in merchandising till he was elected to the office of circuit clerk in 1880. He is discharging his duties in a very efficient manner.
