Mr. and Mrs.  T. L. Silvey were in town on Wednesday and Thursday last.
Hon. Jacob Love, of Maries county, was in town on Tuesday last.
Mr. Jos. Bertaux and wife left for Pittsburg last Monday
Miss Sallie MacBarron of Dixon, Mo., is in town visiting friends.
Misses Fannie H. and Laura B. Bowman of St. James were in Rolla this week on a visit.
Col. Palmer will probably speak at the Court House on Thursday evening next.
We acknowledge a call from Rev. B. W. Hudgens on Monday last, as also Mr. Thos. H. Green.
The School of Mines opens on Monday, September 13th, Monday week.  Reports from Prof. Cox are flattering as to increased attendance.
Mrs. Dr. Storts has gone to Emilnence, Mo., on a visit to her son, Jeff.  We expect to see the Dr. doubly affable to the fair sex during his wife’s absence.
Capt. Roberts, requests us to state that he is not a candidate for representative on the Greenback ticket, but that he is going to do all he can to elect the man who is nominated by that party.

St. James
Mr. Pease is to take charge of the St. James Hotel about the 15th inst.
Georgie Young who has been in the store of Sutton & Young leaves for St. Louis to night to attend school.  Georgie has mad a host of warm friends by his manly and upright course and they will miss him.

Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Binion attended the funeral of Lieut. Lowell Wasson at Nixa Sunday.
